This position prepares and analyzes the monthly financial statements, various operating reports, and monthly board presentations for Basin Electric Power Cooperative (BEPC) and its various subsidiaries. This includes preparing the consolidated financial statements of the subsidiary companies and the annual audited financial statements for Basin Electric consolidated and its various subsidiaries with full disclosure and in compliance with accounting principles generally accepted in the United States. The incumbent is responsible for the coordination of the annual external audit of the subsidiary companies. This position coordinates the proper accounting and reporting for the complex business processes and functions for BEPC and its subsidiaries, and assists with the research and implementation of authoritative accounting standards. The incumbent is also required to analyze and reconcile revenue, expense, and balance sheet accounts.
To perform effectively in this position, the incumbent must have knowledge of GAAP, financial and accounting theory and procedures, financial reporting, utility accounting, and information systems at a level acquired through the completion of a four-year degree in accounting or a related field, and eight years of related professional accounting experience. This position requires strong analytical skills, proficiency in personal computer operation, experience with accounting for non-capital projects, experience with accounting for leased assets, reporting software (Access, Excel, Cognos), other information systems (Infor, Asset Suite), and a good working knowledge of relational database concepts. Proficiency with personal computers and Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel is required. The ability to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills is required.
Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands: This position requires frequent sitting and standing/walking; and occasional reaching below and above shoulder level, use of keyboard/ computer, bending, kneeling, lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds, and pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds. It also requires finger dexterity and hand coordination. This position requires good hearing and vision, and the ability to speak. It also requires the ability to develop plans, procedures and goals; present information to others; and work under stress to complete projects within deadlines.
